Emilia Verginelli nasce a Roma e si diploma negli Stati Uniti. Ha vissuto a Ibiza, Parigi, Londra, Milano e Roma, per poi trasferirsi definitivamente in quest’ultima dove oggi vive. Appassionata di cinema e teatro fin da bambina, svolge diversi lavori per pagarsi gli studi di recitazione. Per la sua formazione teatrale studia con Ragnar Freidank, Declan Donnellan, Fabrice Murgia, Natalie Beasse, Thomas Ostermeier, Daria Deflorian, Lucia Calamaro, Fanny e Alexander. Nella Danza si forma attraverso gli incontri con Julie Stanzak della Pina Bausch Company e Gabriella Garrizo della Compagnia Peeping Tom. 

Alla passione per il teatro unisce il suo interesse per il sociale. Dal 2000 collabora con il laboratorio teatrale per ragazzi disabili dell’Istituto Don Guanella di Roma. Nel 2003 crea un laboratorio teatrale permanente all’interno di strutture del tribunale dei minori. Fonda in seguito la Onlus Gruppo Sorriso Roma dove collabora con numerosi professionisti in progetti che coinvolgono bambini in varie discipline artistiche. 

Nel 2010 crea Fivizzano27, uno spazio culturale indipendente situato nel cuore del quartiere Pigneto di Roma dove cura diverse rassegne tra cui Questa casa non è un Teatro, sulla realtà indipendente della drammaturgia contemporanea italiana e Scritture- incursione nel presente a cura di Lucia Calamaro, prodotta dal Teatro di Roma -Teatro Nazionale in collaborazione con carrozzerie | n.o.t

Dal 2004 lavora nel cinema diretta tra gli altri da Carlos Saura, Asia Argento, Paolo Virzì, Daniele Lucchetti e in serie televisive come Squadra Antimafia. 

Nel 2012/2013 prende parte agli spettacoli Lettere a Lucilio e Vita di Galileo con la regia di Eimuntas Nekrošius presso il Teatro Olimpico di Vicenza. 

Nel 2011 diventa membro della compagnia Sud Costa Occidentale di Emma Dante. Dall’incontro con Emma nasce La bella Rosaspina addormentata in tournée nella stagione 2013-2014. Sempre con Emma Dante è in tournée dal 2017 al 2019 con lo spettacolo Bestie di Scena, prodotto dal Piccolo Teatro di Milano e Festival d’Avignon. 

Il suo debutto alla regia è nel 2019 con Il Mondo Cielo, drammaturgia di Costanza Pannacci, all’interno della rassegna Scritture ideata da Lucia Calamaro, prodotta dal Teatro di Roma – Teatro Nazionale. 

Nello stesso anno firma la regia e l’ideazione di Io non sono nessuno in cui è in scena assieme a Muradif Husric e Michael Schermi. Il progetto arriva finalista al premio Scenario 2019.

 

 

Emilia Verginelli was born in Rome. A traveler from a very young age, she completed her studies in the United States. She then spent five years living between Ibiza, Paris, London, Milan and now Rome. She studied theater with Ragnar Freidank, Declan Donnellan, Fabrice Murgia, Natalie Beasse, Thomas Ostermeier, Daria Deflorian, Lucia Calamaro, Fanny and Alexander. She also trained as a dancer with Julie Stanzak of the Pina Bausch Company, and Gabriella Garrizo of the Peeping Tom Dance Company. 

She’s passionate about theater, and she’s also passionate about social issues. Since 2000, she’s been collaborating with the theatrical workshop of the Don Guanella Institute for disabled youths. In 2003, she created an ongoing theatrical workshop that takes place within group homes overseen by the Juvenile courts of Rome. She’s the founder of Onlus: Gruppo Sorriso Roma. As part of it, Emilia has invited numerous show business professionals to engage with the children in a range of artistic disciplines. In 2010, she created Fivizzano27, an artist collective located in the heart of Rome’s Pigneto neighborhood. Fivizzano27 is a private, independently funded, self-managed cultural association born to create a network of collaboration and exchange between theater professionals. Fivizzano27 is one of the partners of Inquiete, Rome’s festival of women writers. At the venue, Emilia curated the festival of contemporary Italian theater Questa casa non é un Teatro, as well as the Scritture incursioni nel presente festival of new plays, with Lucia Calamaro, produced by Teatro di Roma – Teatro Nazionale in collaboration with carrozzerie | n.o.t.  

Emilia has also worked on camera since 2004, acting in feature films directed by Carlos Saura, Asia Argento, Paolo Virzi’ and Daniele Lucchetti among others, and in TV shows including Squadra Antimafia. In 2012-2013, she performed in the shows Lettere a Lucilio and Vita di Galileo at the Teatro Olimpico of Vicenza, directed by Eimuntas Nekrošius. Emilia is a member of Emma Dante’s theater company Sud Costa Occidentale. Her collaboration with Emma led to the creation of the show La bella Rosaspina addormentata, which went on tour in the 2013-2014 season. From 2017 to 2019, she toured with the show “Bestie di Scena” by Emma Dante, produced by Piccolo Teatro di Milano and the Avignon festival. 

Emilia made her directorial debut in 2019 with Il Mondo Cielo by Costanza Pannacci, at the Scritture festival curated by Lucia Calamaro and produced by Teatro di Roma – Teatro Nazionale. In the same year, she was a finalist for the Scenario award with Io non sono nessuno, a play she wrote and directed. She also performs in the play alongside Muradif Hrustic and Michael Schermi.
